Standards Creation
Through collaborations with related organizations, the SSC develops and recommends standards relevant to the fields of thrombosis and hemostasis. Many of the standards developed by the SSC are adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) as International Standards.
Nomenclature
The SSC began as the authoritative body which first standardized the naming of blood clotting factors. Its subcommittees act as expert bodies in the standardization of nomenclature to support the blood clotting community. Its recommendations and classifications are published in the Society’s official journal, the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH).
Networking Opportunities
The SSC draws its strength and credibility from the hundreds of physicians and scientists who volunteer to lead and participate in its activities. SSC members find numerous opportunities to network with their peers, expand their professional potential and deepen their expertise.
Education and Annual Meetings
The SSC organizes annual meetings where subcommittee members and experts present their ongoing work in public sessions. These sessions discuss the latest research on bleeding and thrombotic disorders and provide information that attendees can use to improve their ability to diagnose and treat the various disorders of hemostasis.
Research Projects and Grants
The advancement of scientific discovery and processes is a priority of the ISTH SSC. Thus, the SSC invites its members to propose and develop projects which will propel the field of Thrombosis and Hemostasis forward, with emphasis upon the focused topic areas of the ISTH’s 20 subcommittees. ISTH projects may be Capacity Building(no financial support required) or Grant Funded (ISTH Grant Application selection is required). Learn more here.
Registries and Databases
The SSC supports numerous registries and databases where information is collected, updated and shared with the scientific community for greater understanding on the underlying causes of hemorrhagic and thrombotic disorders.
Further information on the SSC structure and function can be found in the SSC Rules and Guidelines.
